Chandranahan Lake Trek – Journey to the Source of the Pabbar River
Hidden deep in the Garhwal Himalayas, the Chandranahan Lake Trek is a raw and less-explored high-altitude adventure that rewards trekkers with untouched alpine beauty. Nestled at an altitude of around 4,000 meters (13,100 feet), Chandranahan is not just one lake but a cluster of pristine glacial lakes, believed to be the source of the sacred Pabbar River – a major tributary of the Yamuna.
Beginning from the traditional mountain village – Janglik in Himachal Pradesh, the trail passes through dense conifer forests, expansive alpine meadows, and rugged glacial landscapes. Characterized by its rugged terrain, pristine alpine environment, and minimal human interference, the Chandranahan Lake Trek presents a compelling blend of natural grandeur, ecological significance, and physical challenge, making it an ideal choice for experienced trekkers seeking an immersive wilderness experience in the higher Himalayas.
Unlike the other treks in Himachal, Chandranahan offers unfiltered solitude. It is a trek for the dreamer who wants to walk through waist-high wildflowers, the photographer chasing the “golden hour” on the Gunas Pass, and the explorer looking to find the true, quiet majesty of the Himalayas.
